When I first sent my manuscript out to agents, and then on to publishers, I was surprised at how many people seemed to have their own "house" stories to tell, about houses they had loved and lost. One person had sold a beloved Victorian when her financial circumstances changed, and still drove by it every day with her two teenage sons. Another had relinquished an incredible Craftsman that she had spent years renovating when she married a man with children and the house proved too small for her new family. Most unbelievably, someone told me the story of a distant relative who had poured so much time, money, and love into fixing up a beloved house in Texas that when she lost it during a divorce, she actually did burn it down and is now serving jail time for arson, which proves that truth is indeed stranger than fiction. I hope you'll share your stories here about homes you love or have loved or hope to live in someday.
